It's a comment heard more than once from patrons viewing the impressive works of Bridgewater artist Tina Underwood. Elaborating on that theme and speaking about her work, Tina will give an Art Talk on June 25 at 3:00 pm in the studio at Gallery 25.
Ms. Underwood was born to immigrant parents, who established a family garden center and landscaping business in Roxbury. She grew up with flowers and learned to cultivate her own gardens. Surrounded with the natural beauty of the gardens and the landscape of western Connecticut, the artist is inspired by endless subject matter.
"The Dutch look of my paintings came about when I switched from watercolors to oil paints about eight years ago," added Ms. Underwood. "In this medium I can showcase the strong light effects that I love so much, light that spills over the objects and flowers I set up in my north light studio."
Recognizing she has an affinity for the painters of the seventeenth century Dutch golden age, Tina has studied the handling of light in those paintings and used it as inspiration for her work. "As I study the works of that era, I have a feeling of coming home. This is what my work is meant to be."
Currently the "Featured Artist" at Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio, an impressive selection of oil paintings by Tina Underwood is currently on exhibit in Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio, 25 Church Street in New Milford. The gallery will host a reception on Saturday, June 25, from 4-7 pm following Tina's presentation. "It's so Dutch!" continues on exhibition until August 1.
