Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 4 to 7pm
Last day to register is Wednesday, May 18.
This is an adult class and is limited to 10 students. No previous glass experience required.
Kiln carving is a term used to describe a kiln forming process that achieves a bas relief, textured or sculpted look in glass. Students in this workshop will learn how to use refractory material (in this case ceramic fiber paper) cut to form a design and used as a base pattern for stacked glass to be fired in the kiln. During firing, the underside of the glass conforms to the patterns cut into the refractory material assuming its contours and textures..
The cost for this workshop is $50. The instructor will provide all materials, the use of tools needed as well as firing the prepared glass. The finished pieces will be available for pick up at the gallery approximately 2 weeks after the class..
The instructor for this workshop is Maryann Meken-Silvestri an award winning fused glass artist from Danbury, CT. and gallery 25 member. A former public school art teacher, she has been working exclusively as a fused glass artist for the past 23 years..
