Thursday, January 15 & 22 from 6-8 PM
Handmade gifts make Valentine's Day extra special—and glass makes them unforgettable! In this two-session fused glass class, participants will design and create colorful hearts and flowers that can become window hangings, small plates, garden stakes, pocket hearts, earrings, or even a pendant or necklace. Expect lots of color, plenty of glass, a mold or two, and lots of creative fun while learning the basics of glass fusing and kiln firing.
This class is perfect for beginners and returning students alike.
Day 1: Creating with Glass. Learn the basics of fused glass, including tools, safety, and different types of glass. Use heart molds to create dimensional glass hearts. Make small cabochons suitable for earrings. Design a 5" x 5" hearts-and-flowers piece that will later be slumped into a plate. Create hearts and flowers for garden stakes. Learn about kiln firing schedules and what happens to your glass in the kiln. All pieces will be fired after class.
Day 2: Finishing & Jewelry View and discuss fired pieces and review results. Place 5" x 5" designs into "soft square" slumper molds. Learn about firing schedules for slumping. Create a necklace or keep a heart as a pocket charm. Learn simple jewelry-making techniques. The plates will require an additional firing after the second class. Finished plates will be ready for pickup at Gallery 25 on January 24 (backup pickup date: January 31).
